Join Persist Brooklyn in exploring what we – and you – can do to counter lies, misinformation and propaganda and better understand the factors that influence public opinion, voters and democracy. You are invited to bring (submit) an article, social media post, headline or subject – that we as a group can analyze and create actionable steps in response. Each session we will discuss a current information-related subject – based on current events proposed by participants. Our Working Group on “Lies, Misinformation and Propaganda” explores factors that influence voters and public opinion – and with the help of experts figure out what we as activists need to do to better in messaging progressive values and also to equip ourselves with strategies to counter lies, misinformation and propaganda. Additionally we seek to better understand and counter the Right Wing media’s impact in creating barriers to progress, voting and democracy. We seek to better understand and directly engage in improved information/communications and see the media as an accountable ally essential for an informed democracy, implementation of a progressive agenda and countering dangerous misinformation and propaganda.
