Texas Special Election: Send Instagram DMs for a Democratic Win
April 2, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT
An event every week that begins at 12:00 pm on Friday, repeating until April 30, 2021
Join Flip the West in sending Instagram DMs to likely Texas-06 voters to mobilize the vote for Democrats in the upcoming Congressional special election.
We are sending messages via Instagram DM to mobilize voters for a Special Election that will be held in Texas’ 6th Congressional District on May 1 to fill the seat of Republican Rep. Ron Wright, who died in February of COVID-19.
This will be a jungle primary with over a dozen candidates from all parties on the ballot. If no candidate receives over 50% of the vote, there will be a runoff among the top 2 candidates.
Early voting starts on April 19. Our first round of phone calls will let people know about the election and urge them to vote early.

Please read through – what to expect:
We will meet on Zoom, get trained, and start contacting Texas voters. (It’s important for participants to attend the training before they begin DMing; please come on time).
This action requires some commitment and follow through, as Texas voters may contact you after the event. You will need to monitor your Instagram account every 2-3 days for several weeks, update our Data Tracking Spreadsheet as needed, and communicate with us through our dedicated Slack channel.
We’ll provide you with a script and sample responses to voter questions.
The host will be available throughout the session to support you with your responses, and will continue to support you for several weeks after your shift.
What you need: You need an Instagram account that you have had for at least the past month or longer. We recommend you load Instagram on your PC or Mac, as it is a more efficient way to converse with voters. If you don’t have a computer, you can use your cell phone.
