ABOUT SoCAL BLUE

WHAT WE DO

Established in 2017, SoCal Blue focuses on uniting Southern California progressive activists and organizers through our calendar of political events. Our primary objective is to help progressives and Democrats win elections.

Everyone working on our calendar is a volunteer.

We played a central role in organizing the Southern California district coalitions that produced record turnout and swept the region’s 2018 Congressional elections. Our work has continued in every election cycle since.

Recently, we launched the Blue Voter Guide. It helps voters make quick, informed choices about candidates and propositions by showing what's on the ballot and the endorsements from trusted organizations on the left.

We work with numerous other "resistance" political organizations and have partners and allies throughout the country. These include Swing Left, Field Team 6, Indivisible groups, Civic Sundays, Sister District, California Democratic Party, Westside Democratic HQ, and the Grassroots Democrats HQ.

WHAT THE CALENDAR COVERS

While we also include swing state and local events, our site centers on the competitive Congressional House districts in SoCal.

Currently, these districts are:

  • CA13: Adam Gray is the Democratic candidate for this district. It includes Merced County and parts of Madera, Stanislaus, Fresno, and San Joaquin Counties. Currently represented by a Republican, it leans Democratic.
  • CA22: Rudy Salas is the Democratic candidate for this district. Located in the San Joaquin Valley, it covers most of Kings County and parts of Tulare and Kern Counties. It is the most Democratic-leaning congressional district represented by a Republican.
  • CA27: George Whitesides is the Democratic candidate. This district is in northern Los Angeles County, and includes Santa Clarita, Lancaster, and Palmdale. It is one of many districts represented by a Republican who voted for Joe Biden in 2020.
  • CA40: Joe Kerr is the Democratic candidate for this district. It is a mix of the counties of Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside. It is also one of many districts represented by a Republican who voted for Joe Biden in 2020.
  • CA41: Will Rollins is the Democratic candidate running in this district. It consists of most of the western part of the Palm Springs Area, as well as commuter towns in the Greater Los Angeles area and exurban and rural areas in South-Western Riverside County. Represented by a Republican, it is considered a toss-up district.
  • CA45: Derek Tran is the Democratic candidate. This district spans parts of Orange and Los Angeles Counties. Currently represented by a Republican, the election in this district is expected to be one of the state's most competitive.
  • CA47: Dave Min is the Democratic candidate for this district. It is in Orange County and includes the cities of Irvine, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Seal Beach. The Democratic incumbent did not run again for this district, which leans Democratic by D+3 according to the Cook Partisan Voting Index.
  • CA49: Democrat Mike Levin, who has represented this district since 2019, was re-elected in 2022 with 52.6% of the vote. Spanning from northern, coastal San Diego County to southern Orange County, this district includes Oceanside, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Camp Pendleton, San Clemente, Dana Point, San Juan Capistrano, Ladera Ranch, and Coto de Caza.

As mentioned, we also have numerous events for key races in swing states like Nevada, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and more. In addition, we have activist and local political events for the central Los Angeles area as well as ones in the other areas mentioned above.
